Review: Called to Create by Jay Adams
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5/5)
Called to Create is an encouraging, Scripture-centered guide for anyone who senses God calling them
to build something - a business, ministry, or dream - but feels held back by fear, uncertainty, or self-doubt.
What stood out most to me wasn’t the business advice. It was the repeated reminder that God isn’t looking for perfection - He’s looking for obedience. Throughout the book, Jay Adams gently points readers back to biblical truth, showing that ordinary people who simply said “yes” to God became part of His extraordinary story.
I especially appreciated the emphasis on taking the next faithful step rather than waiting for perfect conditions. The reflection questions, prayers, and practical challenges help move the reader from inspiration to action.
Reading this through my own Carry Less. Lead More. lens, one message kept surfacing:
Leadership becomes lighter when we stop carrying responsibilities God never asked us to carry.
Many leaders postpone obedience because they’re trying to carry certainty, control, or the pressure to have everything figured out. This book reminds us that God rarely gives the whole blueprint - He simply asks us to trust Him with the next step.
One of my favorite themes was the challenge to stop waiting for the “perfect time.” Whether it’s registering a business, launching a ministry, publishing a website, or simply praying before making decisions, faithful leadership is built through consistent small acts of obedience.
If I had one suggestion, it would be to include more stories from people who have walked this journey. The biblical teaching is solid, and personal testimonies could make the principles even more relatable.
Overall, Called to Create is less about building a successful business and more about becoming the kind of person God can trust with your calling. It’s a reminder that success isn’t measured by platform or popularity, but by faithfulness.
If you’re carrying fear, comparison, uncertainty, or the pressure to “have it all together,” this book offers a refreshing invitation:
Carry less fear. Carry less pressure. Carry less striving. Trust God with the outcome, take the next faithful step, and lead from a place of obedience rather than overwhelm.
That’s a message every Christian leader needs to hear.
